From peer support to a national platform, the Est Institute began with one student’s drive to make academic success accessible to all.

The Est Institute was founded in 2014 with a simple mission: to make high-quality academic support accessible and affordable. What started as one student helping peers prepare for the SAT quickly grew into a trusted resource for learners across Loudoun, Fairfax, and beyond.

Since then, hundreds of students have benefited from customized guidance in test preparation, coursework, and academic and professional development. Even as the Institute’s reach expanded from in-person sessions in Virginia to virtual mentoring nationwide, the focus has remained the same…

To empower students to achieve their goals with confidence.

Behind the Est Institute is founder Lauren Est, whose own academic journey—eleven AP courses, dual enrollment, and, later, a Neuroscience degree from the University of Florida and a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University—underscored both the challenges and opportunities of education. She built the institute not only from experience but also from a commitment to helping others navigate their own academic paths.

More than a decade later, the Est Institute continues to stand for personalized learning, long-term growth, and meaningful mentorship.

FAQs

  • The Est Institute offers educational and professional services to individuals of all ages and ability levels. Here’s a snapshot: in October 2022 alone, we’ve helped people with algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, precalculus, AB calculus, college-level business calculus, SAT prep, ACT prep, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology, history, cover letters, resumes, scholarships, college applications and essays, AP test prep, and even job interviews. We don’t like to say we do it “all”… but we definitely do it “most.”

  • We’ll collect your name, phone number, and e-mail address to create your customer profile prior to attending your first session. We do not share that information with anyone. After the session concludes, you’ll get an invoice via e-mail that links to a secure payment portal. If you prefer to pay another way, just let us know. We’re breezy.

  • The Est Institute is rooted in equal opportunity. If you feel as though you’d benefit from our services but need more time to pay, reach out to Lauren directly to discuss how we can work together to best meet your needs.

  • By receiving instruction at the Est Institute—even just once—students are automatically considered to receive any of our rolling scholarships and awards. No inconvenient deadlines; no application fees… just the year-round practice of recognizing and rewarding excellence when deserved. Lauren will notify scholarship recipients personally and send a check to the awardee directly. If you are in need of financial assistance beyond our rolling performance-based scholarships, consider applying for one of our grant programs.

  • We recognize that occasional scheduling conflicts are unavoidable; however, to honor the time and preparation invested by our team—and to ensure equitable access to support for all students—any cancellations or requests to reschedule must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance. Sessions canceled within this window will be charged in full, and missed appointments (no-shows) are likewise considered billable and are not eligible for rescheduling. Habitual last-minute changes may result in limited future scheduling opportunities. Given the high demand for services, particularly during peak periods such as SAT and college application season, we deeply appreciate your respect for the time, structure, and shared commitment that support the success of every student we serve.

  • Of course you can. Donations help finance our operating expenses, but more importantly, it allows us to give out scholarships and grants more frequently. The Est Institute also makes regular donations to a variety of local causes, so a donation can contribute to the expansion of our philanthropic efforts, too.
